For many years I worked in the hotel industry both in the UK and in France. I started in housekeeping and have been fortunate enough to work my way up to being a GM and have opened several hotels in different capacities, including fulfilling my ambition in that of GM.
When I was pregnant with my second son I took the introductory TEFL course and loved it. So when I was looking for a career change it seemed the natural choice. Since 2009 I have been working with companies in the region that need their employees to speak english - either to their customers, suppliers or to regional/head offices. At the beginning I worked purely as a sub-contractor to either language centers or training centres that did not have a language trainer already in-house. In 2012 I was lucky enough to sign my first contract in my own name and therefore to become an official training provider, which means that I am now able to tender for business in my own name and to go in as the main contractor - which is good news!
I have evolved my own style and which trying to remain true to my TEFL roots, I don't believe in only speaking english and will speak French either to provide a quick translation of a word or phrase or to provide an understandable explanation. I feel that I have limited time with my students and don't want to unnecessarily waste this. My students also appreciate my business background and feel that this brings a different, adapted approach to language learning, with most emphasis being placed on listening and talking skills. I also believe that just as children learn whilst having fun, so do adults so we play a lot of games. My motto is "as long as it's in english, anything goes".
