Being Dyslexic in France

An overview, based on our experiece:

In France, the treatment and recognition is a medicalised process.  Added to this you have little job crossover, as they say "chaqu'un son métier" : teachers teach, painters paint etc, which means that the support for dyslexia has to be provided out of school.

Diagnosis can only be confirmed after a certain amount of reading age delay is observed and by a neuropediatrician.  Teachers are not obliged to make changes to their teaching methods unless the diagnosis process has been done and recommendations are given.

These are the negatives.  However, the fact that the support is given by trained professionals and (usually out of school, means that the child receives expert tuition on a regular basis - once or twice a week.  My understanding of the UK system would be that provision would be on a more ad-hoc basis or provided by the teachers themselves.
